Bits and bobs: Turbo Lash
Estee Lauder’s vibrating Turbo Lash mascara has officially replaced Maybelline’s Great Lash and Dior’s Diorshow as my favorite mascara of all time. Admittedly, I rolled my eyes at the buzzing tube when I first received it about four months ago. But it has since won me over with its ability to do the job without [...]

Spreading the good word aka How two credit-crunch facials rocked my world
I’ve replaced my expensive cleansers with the bargain drugstore staples Epsom salt and aspirin. The backstory: in preparing to move here, I purchased about $400 worth of my favorite facial cleansers and moisturizers. I did this to keep me out of pizza face territory through autumn until my trip home for Thanksgiving because I wasn’t [...]

Hair wars won
Crikey! After three long months of searching, I finally found a good London salon to go to for my winter weekly wash and sets. It’s a cute little mother and daughter owned shop called SVB (call 011 44 20 8291 5555 for appointments). I’ve tried several stylists during my time here but few knew how [...]

Do these products really still exist?
Saw these in an Afro-beauty shop in Brixton today. They were tucked between a shelf of Ambi and Isoplus products.

Hair Wars
“Um, who did your hair?” My homegirl asked with all kinds of dead seriousness at first sight of me. I was back in New York to cover Fashion Week after having moved to London two weeks prior. We had decided to meet up at a party for the designer Phillip Lim before moving on to [...]

If your hair gets as oily as ours does
I’ve tried wearing bangs on two separate occasions, both attempts failing miserably because my hair tends to get insanely oily just two days after a blowout. So the oil renders my bangs greasy pieces, rather than full-bodied forehead fringe. Hardly cute.

Why we’re not completely sold on satin
We called the ladies over at Chanel and attempted to call in a bottle of their new Blue Satin nail polish only to find out that the rumors were true: the PR department was all out and the lacquer is already on backorder in most stores.
While the color looked cool within the context of Karl [...]

PALETTE: Fun with Fafinettes
Fafi, our favorite Parisian street artist, has decorated M.A.C. lipstick tubes, carrying cases, compacts and other items with her too-cool-for-school animated characters. The limited edition makeup colors are very 80s bright (think hot pink for lips), which could be kind of fun for spring.

PALETTE: A skin trick: More men’s items that work for women
We found out the most amazing little factoid while having an Eve Lom facial at the SoHo location of Space NK: the best skin saver might be your boyfriend’s shaving products. Our facialist told us about how many of her clients complain about hyperpigmentation and small acne breakouts in the cheek area only to find [...]

PALETTE: Satin alternatives
After dismissing the latest It color in beauty land, we figured the least we could do is suggest an alternative. We like O.P.I.’s Russian Navy because it has maroon undertones, works with more skin complexions, and is easier to pull off overall. The matte, darker blue looks more decadent and less 80s electric than Chanel’s [...]
