Work in progress, done. Plus, other art happenings I’m excited about.

Having attended more than a few art openings in New York, I was especially psyched to participate in the installation of one. Matt McGuinness, the painter and collage artist more commonly known within the Muse family as my other half, drafted me to help paint the camouflage portion of the backdrop for his series, “Casper Disasters,” which examines the lens through which we’ve watched the second Iraq war, and is currently showing at Greene Contemporary. He’s had a good run these past few months from a recent show at Light & Sie in Dallas exhibiting his collage series, “At the Drive-In,” to an article in Details declaring him a one-to-watch to a shout-out in The New York Times (for his hardcore winter surfing habit) to an upcoming showing of his work at the London Art Fair.

Speaking of art happenings in London, I’m also looking forward to checking out Iranian painter Tala Madani’s work, in her solo show, “Dazzle Men,” at Pilar Corrias Gallery. Her paintings distort conventional Middle Eastern ideas of religion and sexuality through paintings of Iranian men in unconventional settings including orgies and Three Stooges-like slapstick scenes.
