It’s raining role models

Thanks to my friend Amy who forwarded me Vogue’s great article on the co-chairwoman of Barack Obama’s transition team and long-time friend, Valerie Jarrett. It has already sparked several rounds of group emails among my friends.

A few excerpts:

“Now we will see black women in magazines who are important because of what they’ve done, not who they know.”

“It definitely gives a nice counterbalance to all of that coverage of Genevieve Jones, whose fame is still suspect, and all of those other clubby, society girls. That’s for damn sure.”

“This article makes me want to go back to grad school.”

“It’s raining black women role models!!”

“Perhaps this will also be the beginning of an era when images of accomplished, highly educated women finally overshadow those of video hos in the media in general?”
